Koda Farms

Koda Farms

Koda Farms is the oldest, continuously family-owned and operated rice farm in California. Keisaburo Koda immigrated to the San Joaquin Valley town of Dos Palos where he built and operated a thriving rice growing, drying and milling operation. He created a corporation with his American-born children as stockholders to comply with the Alien Land Law of 1913, which denied aliens ineligible for citizenship the right to own land in California.  As an innovator in the rice industry, Keisaburo helped pioneer rice growing techniques and his integrated farming operation included a modern rice dryer and mill that allowed complete quality control from seed to store shelf. Keisaburo’s sons rebuilt the farm after World War II, introducing Americans to Kokuho Rose, the first premium medium-grain rice. To this day, Koda Farms is the sole grower of this proprietary strain, which is legendary in the food industry for its unique and superior taste and appearance. Kokuho Rose and ShoChiku-Bai are the brand names produced by Koda Farms. Products include True Koda Varietal (heirloom varietal medium-grain rice), brown rice, rice flour, sweet rice, and organic varietals to name a few.  Koda Farms is still owned and operated by the Koda family. As third-generation farmers and millers, Ross, Robin and Laura Koda continue to revere the memory of Keisaburo Koda.
