The world-renowned 1600-year old Piedmontese cattle breed originates from the picturesque Piedmont region in northwestern Italy, and are “double-muscled,” producing healthier meat without the usual levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, or calories of traditional beef. It even has less calories than roast chicken!
Here in the US, a small group of Great Plains family farmers have chosen to raise this unique breed in a pastoral setting just like their predecessors. “Our animals are born and raised on open rangelands, not tiny pens,” explain the folks at Certified Piedmontese Beef, “They’re fed a pure vegetarian diet and never receive steroids or antibiotics... We basically raise our animals the same way our great-grandparents’ generation raised cattle.”
